The cathedral of Lund in Southern Sweden is an important Lutheran cathedral dating back to the 12th century. Construction began around 1080 and the cathedral was consecrated in 1145, making it the first church in Scandinavia to have an archbishop. One of the most important features of the cathedral is its astronomical clock, the Horologium mirabile Lundense, dating from around 1424, that still plays twice a day. The cathedral's crypt is famous for its many pillars, one of which is embraced by the statue of a man. According to legend, it is Finn the Giant, who built the cathedral and turned to stone.
